In this workshop, Carrie gives a behind-the-scenes look at creating the award-winning book Virginia Wouldn’t Slow Down! The Unstoppable Dr. Apgar and Her Life-Saving Invention. Using material and feedback Carrie collected as she created, we see how a nonfiction writing project is actually developed. Student scholars will practice gathering story ideas, approaching the first draft of a project, using five specific revision techniques for works in progress, strategies for turning negative feedback into a better story, and best practices for critiquing others’ work. Includes PowerPoint visuals plus group discussion, individual creative time, and Q & A.
